A changing landscape in Scottish music...

There is no doubt that the landscape of youth music-making in Scotland has faced new challenges in the last 15 years since the original publication of What's Going On? (2003).

Nonetheless, thanks to the patient work of leaders across the formal and informal sectors, the spotlight on youth music-making has been sustained through initiatives such as the Instrumental Music Group and, latterly, the Music Education Partnership Group.

However, it is also clear that wider social, cultural and economic changes over the past 15 years have left their mark on young people's music-making. Therefore, the time is right to take another look at youth music in Scotland.
